Speaker:  Ronald Long -- M.A., Sheriff (Retired), 4x Author and Former County Sheriff

Ronald “Ron” Long is a recently retired County Sheriff whose career spanned almost 40 years in the law enforcement and corporate fraud vocations. He spent a majority of his professional tenure investigating illegal drug, organized crime and financial criminal cases. His employment endeavors took place in both Texas and Missouri, and he currently resides in San Antonio with his family. Ron is now an author, whose literary works are comprised of numerous magazine and newspaper articles. These writings include five books, which are compiled of crime novels, cop humor and drug education. Educational initiatives are also an important part of Ron’s works, focusing on the topics of drug education and white-collar crime.

Ron has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Missouri, along with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M International University. Ron has also worked with State and Federal legislators regarding America’s drug addiction problems, and has received numerous appointments to government and corporate boards and committees. He is also a recent recipient of the NAACP’s “Ensurer of Domestic Tranquility” award and the “Metal of Excellence” award from the National Police Hall of Fame.



Presentation 2:  The Value of a CMA in a Not for Profit

Torey Reese, Controller, Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society

Torey is the controller and currently the accounting team of one at Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society. She earned her CMA in 2020. She holds an MBA with a specialty in Health Care Administration from East Carolina University and double majored in Accounting and Operations Management at Western New Mexico University. She has experience in teaching, human resources, retail and accounting.

Torey is a self-described total nerd with a passion for music, video games, reading (particularly historical fiction and sci-fi), horror movies and playing games like chess, Magic the Gathering and various board games. She is married to, Nathaniel, her Marine veteran husband of 15 years and has two boys, Cayden & Caspian, ages 11 and 4.
