Professional Development Session Topic: Federal Income Tax with state and local tax Update on Wayfair

Objectives: 
  • Changes in sales and use taxes as the result of the Supreme Court's decision in Wayfair
  • Expanding use of economic nexus by states over physical presence

About the Speakers:

Jason Lunte joined RSM (through a predecessor firm) in 2005 as a member of the financial services department focusing on hedge funds, fund of funds, proprietary trading firms and private equity funds. 

During 2008-2011, he worked at a global financial services firm where he supervised the preparation and review of tax returns and workpapers, including K-1 preparation and allocation issues. He also handled issues in the areas of carried interests, income tax accounting and state taxation. 

In October 2011, Jason rejoined RSM in the financial services department. He is experienced in providing tax and consulting services to hedge funds, fund of funds and private equity funds as well as other seasoned areas such as Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act compliance. Jason also contributes articles to the Journal of Pass-through Entities and the Illinois CPA Society. He frequently conducts internal training sessions on topics including partnership taxation, hedge fund tax allocations, and taxation of financial instruments. He actively stays up-to-date on current changes in tax law and helps ensure that clients are aware of changes that may impact their business.

Melissa Wofford  focuses on sales and use tax consulting. She assists companies with their sales and use tax issues in all states, but with a focus in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Melissa has over 15 years of experience in state and local tax (SALT) consulting and compliance, including work with a SALT national consulting firm and for publicly held companies. She has worked with a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, construction and real estate, food processing, retail, restaurant, distribution, service, oil and gas, financial institutions, health care and entertainment.

About the Speakers: 

Kaylene Rudolph is a Supervisor in the RSM International Tax Services group. She has experience with RSM serving primarily multinational manufacturing, agribusiness, technology and professional service based companies. Kaylene has collaborated with clients on various structural and operational matters relating to their foreign operations. Such services have included:

Tinashe Chiwanga is a supervisor in the RSM international tax services practice. He focuses on tax compliance and consulting on global tax matters. He has 11 years of tax consulting experience.

Prior to joining RSM, Tinashe was consulting with a local firm in Dallas. Tinashe has experience working with clients across several industries to include technology, industrial products and professional service–based companies. Some of the services performed include:
