Senior Cost Accountant Ideal background

Senior Cost Accountant with a degree in Accounting and current experience working Cost Accounting. In this role, you will be working directly on the manufacturing floor reviewing processes and providing analysis required.

This is not a desk only job; observe the manufacturing floor and review processes. Then come back to the office and put that knowledge to work in analysis.

Join this unique 25-year-old company as the Senior Staff Accountant. You will report to the Accounting Manager and be directly involved in the month-end close, high volume account reconciliations, as well as controlling and verifying financial transactions to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger. Must be highly proficient in utilizing Excel-pivot tables and data analytics. Must have experience using an ERP like Oracle or similar.

The role requires minimal overtime, only during month-end and year-end.

Our client in Plano is seeking an ambitious, high-energy individual to be part of its high performance finance team and contribute to the success of a growing company. The ideal candidate must have strong motivation to take on challenges and a dynamic role to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and expertise in technical concepts of accounting.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the successful candidate in this role must have strong communication, interpersonal, analytical and technical skills.



  • Establish standard costs and update them in accordance with company policies
  • Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
  • Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including inventory, fixed assets, and other asset accounts
  • Evaluate Excess and Obsolete inventory reserves, as part of the close process
  • Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Reviewing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost
  • Performing month-end cost accounting close, including the preparation of journal entries
  • Coordinates physical inventories and monitors the cycle count programs
  • Assist in the preparation of balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses
  • Assist in the preparation of the DZS US’ reporting unit reporting package
  • Assist in the preparation of balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses
  • Perform general accounting duties as required
  • Perform analyses of general ledger account details, when required
  • Assist in aggregation of consolidated inventory for financial reporting purposes
  • Liaise with external auditors in resolving their audit requests in a timely manner
  • Responsible for assisting in updating documentation of process and procedures for
  • SOX purposes, and ensuring controls are executed.
  • Work with other finance personnel in gathering supporting documentation for the financial statement and Sox audits
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • CPA or CMA preferred, not required
  • 7-10 years’ experience required; experience with telecom or other high-tech equipment manufacturers a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Cost Accounting experience
  • Experience with process improvement projects and ability to manage multiple on- going projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP)
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills required
  • Diligent, highly efficient and accurate, with extreme attention to detail and exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter, effective follow through and timely in providing status updates
  • Ability to work independently and productively in a dynamic environment, as well as being a solutions-oriented team player
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills required; both written and verbal communications ability is critical
